New Vision Laser Center
Millions of people, including famous golfer Tiger Woods, have
undergone successful laser vision correction procedures. The
techniques used have evolved greatly over the
past 20 years. LASIK is the most advanced procedure available to
correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Frederick S. Brightbill is the Medical Director at New Vision.
He is a world-renowned corneal surgeon and specialist in corneal
disease, and has over 27 years of
experience in the field. He is a clinical professor at the Medical
School of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and past physician
and surgeon for many years at Davis Duehr Eye Clinic.
It is an outpatient treatment that uses a light beam to alter the
curvature of the cornea to improve vision. The laser emits pulses of
cool ultraviolet or infrared light to remove microns (small amounts
of tissue), altering the curvature of the cornea and allowing visual
images to be more sharply focused on the retina.
The VISX laser treatment itself takes only about a minute per eye
depending on the amount of correction you need. You will be in the
laser room about 15 minutes and in our comfortable lazy boy chairs
45 minutes preparing for the procedure and receiving instructions.
Because it is a surgical procedure with preoperative
preparation(drops) and postoperative checking, you'll want to allow
about an hour for the entire procedure.

Using an excimer laser, Dr. Yoon re-shapes the cornea (the
stationary refractive element at the front of the eye) so that
images are focused to the correct spot on the retina (the light
receptor of the eye). The success rate with this procedure is
excellent, with many patients achieving 20/20 vision or better upon
completion.
The LASIK procedure itself involves little or no discomfort (or
pain) both during the procedure and through the recovery process.
Also, eyesight improvement is almost
immediate, and maximum vision is typically achieved within a few
days.
During the surgery, Dr. Yoon removes the cloudy natural lens from
the eye while the patient is under a topical anesthesia. Next, Dr.
Yoon inserts an intraocular lens (IOL),
which remains permanently in place of the removed natural lens. The
IOL compensates for the magnification the old lens provided. Modern
IOLs are designed for various functions and made out of different
materials; your doctor will know which is most appropriate for your
individual case. After the operation, Dr. Yoon will apply a shield
for the eye and provide you with eye drops to use as directed.
Dr. Yoon was born in Seoul, Korea; lived in Africa (Botswana,
Liberia); and grew up in Eastman, Georgia. He completed his
undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA.
He received his medical degree from New York Medical College, one of
the oldest private medical
schools in the U.S., where he was chosen as a New York Medical
College Trustee Scholar awarded to the top 15%. He completed his
ophthalmology residency at St.
Vincent's Hospital in New York City where he served as Chief
Resident. He also served as a fellow in Cornea and Refractive
Surgery at the Lions Eye Institute in Albany, NY, a specialty
referral eye center.

Rockford Lasik Surgery
LASIK is an exciting surgical procedure that improves vision in mere
minutes. LASIK improves vision safely and precisely by reshaping the
cornea to correct
nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and
astigmatism. Most patients enjoy 20/20 vision or better after
treatment.
The most commonly performed elective surgery in America, LASIK
combines the advantages of two sophisticated technologies: the
accuracy of the excimer laser and the benefits of lamellar
keratoplasty. It is safe, precise and highly successful. Thanks to
LASIK, millions of people worldwide have experienced the wonder of
clear vision without glasses or contact lenses.
Choosing to undergo eye surgery is a difficult decision with
long-lasting consequences. That's why it's so important to find an
experienced surgeon equipped with the latest technology to ensure
that you enjoy the best surgical result possible, with improved
vision and no complications. You probably don't want to put your
eyesight in the hands of an inexperienced surgeon or budget LASIK
practice.
Dr. Malik has performed over 2500 laser vision correction
procedures, including LASIK. He has also successfully performed
thousands of other eye surgeries, including cataract with implant,
laser capsulotomy, glaucoma laser, and other glaucoma surgery. Dr.
Malik welcomes new patients and looks forward to taking care of
patients with cataracts, glaucoma, corneal diseases, and other eye
disorders.
