After your consultation and complete eye exam with our surgeons we
are now ready to proceed with surgery.
On your surgery day you will be examined once again by the surgeon
and led into the laser room. There you will be given topical
anesthesia to numb the surface of the eye, the cornea. Once you are
comfortable the surgeon makes a corneal flap.
This portion of the cornea is approximately the thickness of a human
hair. It is placed back exposing the surface area to be treated with
the laser beam. The laser ablates the exposed corneal surface in a
matter of seconds and the flap is laid back down. After a couple of
minutes, the flap has adhered and we administer eye drops. Your
surgeon sees you one again at the slit lamp to be sure all looks
well and sends you home. We encourage a nap after the procedure to
help with the healing process.
Imagine life without dependency on glasses or contact lenses. It
doesn't have to be a dream any longer, the first step to living an
independent lifestyle is only a phone call away! Come in for a free
screening and meet our physicians and staff. You'll be impressed by
the personal care you are given and will feel confident that you've
put your precious vision in the right hands, those of our
experienced LASIK surgeons.
Dr. G. Brock Magruder has been practicing ophthalmology in Orlando,
Florida since 1963. Born and raised in Orlando, Dr. Magruder
graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine in 1956 and
then completed a three-year residency at New York Hospital Cornell
University Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Magruder founded the
Magruder Eye Institute and specializes in intraocular lens implant
cataract surgery. He is a member of the American College of Eye
Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Eye
Surgery.
LASIK, or Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (meaning to shape the cornea
of the eye using a laser), is an advanced laser procedure for
correcting nearsighted, farsighted, and astigmatic vision. This
procedure is performed by an ophthalmologist using anesthetic eye
drops that completely numb the eye, eliminating the use of needles.
The surgeon creates a micro-thin protective flap. As soon as the
protective flap has been created, the surgeon uses state-of-the-art
laser technology to gently sculpt the cornea for the intended
purpose of reducing or eliminating the need for corrective lenses.
The protective flap is then replaced and heals instantly without the
need for any stitches.
Vision therapy is a progressive form of “exercise” and procedures
for the eyes. It is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for
many common visual problems such as lazy eye, crossed eyes, double
vision, problems with hand eye coordination and some reading and
learning disabilities.
Today the profession of optometry involves much more than just
prescribing and fitting glasses and contact lenses. The Eye Center's
Doctors of Optometry are trained to evaluate any patient's visual
condition and to determine the best treatment for that condition.
