Laser Vision Correction Chicago LASIK
LASIK Chicago (Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis) is the most advanced
refractive surgery procedure for correcting nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism. These
vision problems are caused by an irregularly shaped cornea, the
outer surface of the eye. In laser vision correction, the excimer
laser is used to re-sculpt the cornea to a
more normal shape.
LASIK Chicago combines the skill of the refractive surgeon with the
advanced technology of the excimer laser. During LASIK in Chicago,
the surgeon uses an instrument known as a microkeratome to create a
small flap from the outer layers of the cornea. A "hinge" is left in
the flap so the flap can be laid back on the surface of the cornea.
The excimer laser then uses cool ultra-violet light pulses to gently
re-shape the underlying microscopic layers of corneal tissue.
Finally, the flap is put back to its original position where it
functions as a natural bandage on the cornea.
We offer the Bausch & Lomb ZyoptixTM personalized laser vision
correction system. Zyoptix™ is so advanced it lets us treat eye
imperfections that could not previously be
corrected with conventional LASIK techniques. This new system gives
you the ultimate in clarity by using wavefront technology that
analyzes each eye individually for precise results and outstanding
visual quality. With the Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix™ system, you'll have
the confidence of knowing it's been used in over 100,000 procedures
worldwide. In fact, in the U.S. clinical trial, not one patient was
dissatisfied with the results.
Zyoptix uses wavefront technology, which allows us to measure and
correct each individual's unique visual defects. Astrophysicists
developed this technology when they needed better technology to
repair the Hubble telescope. When it was first put into service, the
high-powered telescope's images had distortions, similar to those
many humans have. The images visible with the telescope were blurred
because the telescope's mirrors had aberrations (imperfections),
similar to those in human eyes.

Chicago Cornea Consultants
LASIK, or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a surgical
procedure that is designed to reduce your dependency on glasses and
contact lenses. Here at Chicago
Cornea Consultants, our LASIK surgeons use the latest in laser
vision correction technology to ensure each patient receives optimal
results. In addition to LASIK, our
surgeons also offer Epi-LASIK/“LASEK” and PRK. We have three
convenient locations to serve you, including Chicago, Highland Park,
and Hoffman Estates.
Although LASIK is an extremely successful procedure and there are
very few cases of complications, there are risks associated with the
surgery. In most cases, the
microkeratome, the tool that creates the corneal flap, is the source
of the problem. Intralase® replaces the microkeratome with the
precision of a laser, making LASIK at
Chicago Cornea Consultants safer than ever before!
During the Intralase® LASIK procedure at Chicago Cornea Consultants,
the Intralase® laser is used to precisely create a corneal flap.
Once Intralase® has created the flap,
an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea, just like the
traditional LASIK procedure.
People who are ineligible for traditional LASIK because their
corneas are too thin may be good candidates for Intralase® LASIK.
Intralase® LASIK is also associated with
fewer complications than traditional LASIK because a laser is used
to create the corneal flap, rather than a blade. The outer layer of
the cornea experiences no trauma, and the procedure is painless.
