LASIK Miami
The surgeons of the Laser Eye Center of Miami are Miami LASIK
specialists. They have treated thousands of patients and helped them
eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. In the
paragraphs below they describe the LASIK procedure.
ALL LASER CUSTOM LASIK, the most advanced vision correction
procedure, is performed in our own state-of-the-art facility. We
have available the most advanced ophthalmic equipment including
Intralase® laser, for a higher level of safety and accuracy, TWO
VISX® STAR-4 Excimer Lasers, Wave-Scan® vision analyzer that
measures the unique “fingerprint” of each eye leading to better
vision with higher resolution, and the Pentacam®, the most accurate
optical scanner for corneal measurements.
Imagine waking up and seeing the alarm clock without searching for
your glasses. Imagine enjoying your favorite sport without contacts
or glasses. For millions of people, these dreams have come true! It
is truly a miracle of modern medical technology.
By transferring the information from the CustomVue wave front
analyzer directly to the VISX excimer laser we maximize the results
of an already very successful procedure. The patient should expect
sharper vision after surgery, with less night-time complaints such
as glare or starburst. Also, the odds of being 20/20 or better go
from 70% after conventional LASIK Eye Surgery to almost 90%
withCustomVue LASIK.

Pannu Laser Institute
Has your nearsightedness or farsightedness been bothering you for
far too long? Has dealing with your current eyeglasses or contacts
become tiresome? Whether you are suffering from myopia, hyperopia,
or astigmatism, LASIK can help your vision. Laser In Situ
Keratomileusis (LASIK) uses a state-of-the-art excimer laser to
reshape or change the curvature of the cornea, thereby eliminating
nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Pannu Laser
Institute has invested in the latest LASIK
technology available today: LADAR Vision WaveFront Guided Laser
Technology.
Within the last few years LASIK technology has evolved into a
successful technique for correcting refractive errors. The current
procedure, done on an outpatient basis, involves laser surgery to
correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. LASIK can
correct a much higher degree of nearsightedness with or without
astigmatism than any other refractive procedure, with excellent
results (95% of patients achieve 20/40 vision or better).
In performing LASIK, an eye drop anesthetic is used to numb the eye.
The surgeon then uses a special instrument to create a corneal flap
and expose the inner portions of corneal tissue. There are two
different LASIK procedures that the Pannu Laser Institute offers to
its patients. One involves a small instrument called a microkeratome
that is used to create the corneal flap while the other procedure is
completely bladeless and uses a special laser to create the corneal
flap. The eye is then positioned under the excimer laser which has
been computer programmed to remove microscopic amounts of the
internal corneal tissue.
Removal of the tissue changes the curvature of the cornea. If the
patient is nearsighted, tissue closer to the central part of the
cornea is removed to decrease the curvature or flatten the cornea.
If a patient is farsighted, tissue in the peripheral part of the
cornea is removed to increase the curvature of the cornea. To
correct for astigmatism, selected tissue at certain angles is
removed to insure that the cornea curves equally in all directions.
After the laser has been used, the flap is returned to its original
position. The corneal tissue has extraordinary natural bonding
qualities that allow effective healing without the use of stitches.

Rapid Vision Improvement without Surgery
Dr. Edward Boshnick maintains a cutting edge optometric practice
covering all types of vision care including non-surgical vision
improvement, contact and scleral lens care, children's vision and
vision rehabilitation for the partially sighted. Dr. Boshnick
received his B.A. degree from the University of Miami in 1964 and
his doctorate in Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in
1968. He then went on to serve as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical
Service Corps from 1968 to 1970 where he was made chief of the
Optometry clinic at the Hunter Army Airfield Hospital. Dr. Boshnick
is a member of the American
Optometric Association, and a Fellow of the American Academy of
Optometry, and a Fellow of the International Orthokeratology Section
of the National Eye Research Foundation. In 1994, Dr. Boshnick was
awarded the George N. Jessen Award during the National Eye Research
Foundation's 39th Annual Post-Graduate Congress in Las Vegas,
Nevada. Dr. Boshnick has been in private practice at the same
location in Miami, Florida since 1970 specializing in contact lens
care, children's vision,
orthokeratology and vision care for the partially sighted (low
vision). Dr. Boshnick has been a clinical investigator for both the
FDA and several major contact lens manufacturers for over 20 years.
Dr. Boshnick has also lectured extensively and authored a number of
professional articles dealing with contact and scleral lenses and
orthokeratology. At the 1st Global Keratoconus Congress held in Las
Vegas, Nevada in 2007, Dr. Boshnick gave two presentations involving
the use of new technologies to treat keratoconus and post-lasik
ectasia. At the 2nd Global Keratoconus Congress held in Las Vegas in
2008, Dr. Boshnick gave a presentation involving the use of the
Synergeyes Post-Surgical Lens for the restoration of quality vision
lost due to refractive eye surgery (LASIK, R-K), transplanted
corneas and pellucid marginal degeneration.
In recent years Dr. Boshnick has increased his services to include
providing vision care to those children and adults with disabilities
and special needs. This includes those who suffer vision loss not
only from ocular disease, but who have lost vision from neurological
disorders and head trauma. New technologies are here now which allow
us to provide visual rehabilitation to those who have lost quality
vision from these conditions. We will search the globe to bring the
latest and best technologies to our patients.
