Lanter EyeCare
LASIK surgery, Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis, is an
outpatient laser vision correction procedure intended to reduce or
eliminate the need for corrective lenses by
altering the shape of the cornea. The cornea is responsible for
focusing light to create an image on the retina, called refraction.
An imperfect cornea causes distorted vision,
or refractive error, such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia
(farsightedness), and astigmatism. Custom LASIK eye surgery can
correct these refractive errors and
reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses and contacts. Dr. Earl
Lanter has performed LASIK surgery for thousands of satisfied
patients in Indiana. In addition to
performing LASIK in Indianapolis, Dr. Lanter now provides custom
LASIK treatment in Carlsbad, California, in Northern San Diego
County.
LASIK surgery has helped millions of people with myopia, hyperopia,
and astigmatism realize their dreams of better vision and life
without glasses. An average of 98 percent
of laser vision correction patients enjoy 20/40 vision or better
after the procedure, the level required to legally drive without
corrective lenses. With proper care, the healing
process is relatively painless and extremely short, allowing most to
drive and return to work the very next day. By eliminating the need
for glasses or contact lenses, LASIK
surgery offers our San Diego and Indianapolis patients the freedom
to pursue hobbies, sports, and career options without the hassle of
corrective lenses. The obvious benefit
of LASIK eye surgery is simply clear vision.
Earl E. Lanter OD, MD graduated from Indiana University with
Distinction in 1977 and received a Doctor of Optometry degree with
High Distinction in 1979. Dr. Lanter gained invaluable clinical
experience as an optometrist for a year and then pursued his Doctor
of Medicine degree, graduating with Highest Distinction in 1984.
Upon completion of his specialty training, he started his private
practice in Indianapolis in 1988. In 1992, Dr. Earl Lanter was one
of the first doctors in the United States to perform Instant Vision
cataract surgery without shots, stitches or patches. This procedure
allowed many to see at a distance almost immediately without glasses
or contacts. These remarkable results spurred Dr. Lanter’s interest
in refractive surgery, which would allow him to provide thousands
with great vision. Dr. Earl Lanter trained with the leading experts
in refractive surgery, traveling the world to bring home the latest
in technology and surgical procedures.

Mishawaka Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK combines the skill of the refractive surgeon with the advanced
technology of the excimer laser. During LASIK, the surgeon uses an
instrument known as a
microkeratome to create a small flap from the outer layers of the
cornea. A "hinge" is left in the flap so the flap can be laid back
on the surface of the cornea. The excimer
laser then uses cool ultra-violet light pulses to gently re-shape
the underlying microscopic layers of corneal tissue. Finally, the
flap is put back to its original position where it functions as a
natural bandage on the cornea.
The actual procedure takes only minutes to perform. LASIK is
virtually painless although a mild sedative and anesthetic eye drops
are generally used. Patients can usually see quite well immediately
after the surgery and frequently resume normal activities within a
short period of time. If you would like more information regarding
lasik in Mishawaka or more information regarding the expertise and
surgical skills of Dr. Gabriele please feel free to call us directly
at (574) 254-0700 We are more than happy to answer any of the
questions you may have regrading custom LASIK vs. conventional lasik
and the role of wavefront technology in our ability to perform
accurate measurements of your cornea.
Dr. Gabriele has been a leader in providing advanced eye care in
Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. He currently serves
nationally as a cataract and glaucoma surgery instructor for other
surgeons. Dr. Gabriele has also pioneered the “Hydro-Lift” LASIK
enhancement technique and is the only Michiana surgeon to complete
the rigorous training needed to perform the advanced Aquaflow
glaucoma technique and the Crystalens accommodating lens surgery to
reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses and bifocals.

Indiana LASIK Specialists at Price Vision Group
Price Vision Group and Dr. Price have once again set the standard in
laser vision correction with the Wavelight Allegretto Wave Excimer
laser system for Custom LASIK. Approved by the Food & Drug
Administration (FDA), our Allegretto Wave system offers patients
improved safety, enhanced precision, and unsurpassed results.
Designed specifically for LASIK with applied German engineering,
this new generation of refractive laser technology is the first
Excimer laser of its kind. The Allegretto Wave
laser platform is not a 3rd or 4th generation adaptation of existing
laser technology, but an entirely new excimer laser system.
The WaveLight Allegretto Excimer laser offers patients a superior
beam profile and eye tracking system, which results in a higher
quality of vision. The results Dr. Price
achieves with this ‘Perfect Pulse’ laser technology – combined with
the added safety and precision of IntraLASE – are why Price Vision
Group continues to be the clear
choice for LASIK in Indiana.
Dr. Price is an internationally recognized ophthalmic surgeon, named
as one of the top physicians in the country for corneal disease and
transplantation by THE BEST
DOCTORS IN AMERICA. Dr. Price is also considered the most
experienced Indianapolis eye doctor in the region. He is a Phi Beta
Kappa graduate of the University of Notre Dame and is a 1977
graduate of Indiana University Medical School, where he also
completed his residency in ophthalmology.
He completed a fellowship in corneal and external disease at Tulane
University. He has served as a principal investigator or medical
advisor for studies on ophthalmic
medications and devices, as well as surgical procedures including
cornea transplants and Excimer lasers. He is also a teacher,
lecturer and inventor holding U.S. patents for special devices used
in ophthalmic surgery.

The Eye Center of Southern Indiana
Laser vision correction uses cool pulses of ultraviolet light to
remove a very small amount of tissue from the cornea at the front of
the eye. This corrects the abnormal curve of the cornea and allows
light to properly focus on the retina. The result is clear distance
vision.
LASIK stands for “Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis”. It is a
laser vision correction procedure that can correct nearsightedness,
farsightedness, and astigmatism by
reshaping the curvature of the cornea. The procedure involves
creating a very precise, thin flap of the corneal tissue utilizing
the Intralase system. The flap is folded back, and the laser’s cool
beam of ultraviolet light removes a small amount of tissue, usually
less than the thickness of a human hair. After the precise amount of
tissue is removed, the flap is replaced. The actual laser treatment
takes 15 to 60 seconds, based on the degree of correction necessary.
Your procedure will take place at The Eye Center of Southern Indiana
in Bloomington. The outpatient procedure is performed without your
having to change into surgical
attire. Upon arrival you will receive an oral sedative to alleviate
any anxiety. Your eye will be thoroughly cleaned. Topical eye drops
will be used to numb the eye prior to your entrance into the laser
suite. The procedure takes three minutes per eye. After the
procedure patients stay in the post-operative room for 20 to 30
minutes. Please plan on being at The Eye Center for about 2 to 3
hours. You will need a driver to take you home.
