With today’s modern technology there is no longer a need to continue
using traditional methods of vision correction. Glasses and contact
lenses have solved the visual problems of many patients and continue
to be an integral part of vision correction. However, there are many
patients that for various reasons are unable to function well with
glasses or contact lenses, or simply cannot tolerate the
inconvenience of these corrective devices. These patients are better
served by refractive laser vision correction. Laser refractive
correction is the only treatment that restores normal vision with no
inconveniences. At Eye Surgicenter we understand that everyone
deserves to experience the quality of life that normal vision
allows. Refractive surgery is the path to living life at the
fullest.
By adjusting the pattern of the laser beam through its computer, it
is possible to treat high levels of nearsightedness and astigmatism.
After the tissue has been reshaped, the flap is placed in its
original position. Because of the cornea's extraordinary natural
bonding qualities, healing is rapid and does not require stitches.
LASIK is performed as an outpatient procedure in the comfort and
convenience of the excimer laser surgical suite.
The entire procedure takes less than 30 minutes and both eyes are
done the same day. The procedure is performed using topical
anesthesia (eye drops). Some patients report a slight post-operative
discomfort that can usually be alleviated with medications. Patients
see a dramatic improvement in their vision within the first day.
Most patients return to their normal activities within a day or two.

LASIK is short for Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis. It is a
procedure designed to reduce or eliminate nearsightedness or
farsightedness with or without astigmatism. Nearsightedness, also
called myopia, occurs when the shape of the eye is elongated
resulting in the light being focused in front of the retina (the
"seeing" part of the back of the eye).
Farsightedness, also called hyperopia, occurs when the shape of the
eye is shortened so that light is focused behind the retina.
Astigmatism is a condition in which light that enters the eye is
focused at more than one place inside the eye. This happens when the
cornea (the clear window in the front of the eye) has different
curvatures at different points (similar to the shape of a football).
People who experience difficulty wearing glasses and contact lenses
due to allergies, dryness of the eyes, astigmatism, or other
irritants. Generally the best candidates have low to moderate levels
of myopia (-1.00 to -8.00 diopters) or hyperopia (+1.00 to +2.00
diopters). In addition, their lifestyle or career may require good
vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses to function
well. Candidates are encouraged to attend a free educational seminar
or schedule a visit to the office for a FREE VIP Consultation. A
thorough eye examination and evaluation is required prior to having
iLASIK.
No single formula can provide the perfect correction for everyone.
This is why the individual evaluation with the doctor is so
important in planning for iLASIK. For example, if you spend 8 hours
a day working at a computer screen, your visual needs will differ
from someone who spends much of the day driving. If you are over 40,
you may experience problems with your near vision, focusing up
close. By leaving one eye slightly undercorrected (if you are
nearsighted), or slightly overcorrecting one eye (if you are
farsighted), the need for reading glasses can be reduced. This
technique, called monovision, has proven successful in helping
individuals cope with the natural aging process. Your specific needs
in terms of lifestyle and career goals are taken into consideration
when your surgical plan is developed.
