LASIK and Laser Eye Surgery
The Bausch & Lomb Orbscan provides a topographical map of both the
front and back of your cornea, making your LASIK and other
refractive procedures safer and more effective. This is an extremely
valuable tool in determining your candidacy for the procedure, this
revolutionary system provides 9,000 checkpoints of data about your
eye in less than two seconds. Since the cornea of your eye is as
individual as you are, the contours, thickness, and curvature are
uniquely yours. The more information we can acquire about your eyes,
the better your laser vision correction outcome.
With the advanced Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix personalized laser vision
correction system, Dr. Collins can advance your vision to a new
level of precision and clarity; even treat eye imperfections that
previously could not be corrected with conventional LASIK
techniques. The newest generation flying spot / true scanning laser
is designed to increase accuracy and produce an extremely smooth
corneal surface, promoting faster healing and results in better
vision. More LASIK procedures are done with Technolas lasers
worldwide than with any other system. Dr. Collins participated in
the FDA clinical trials leading to the approval of the Zyoptix
Wavefront technology.
LASIK (Laser-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is an FDA-approved procedure
for correcting vision by reshaping the surface of the cornea using a
laser. LASIK laser vision correction is a surgical treatment for
nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism that reshapes the
cornea to improve visual focus. An excimer laser is used to remove
microscopic layers of tissue to reshape the underlying cornea to an
improved curvature. Your dependence on glasses or contacts can be
decreased or eliminated as a result of this procedure.
LASIK is the most common type of laser vision correction procedure
and the most frequently performed healthcare procedure in North
America. It is an extremely effective outpatient procedure that is
suitable for a very broad range of prescriptions.
Laser vision correction gives most patients the freedom to enjoy
their normal daily activities without the dependence of corrective
lenses. Imagine boating and skiing with clearer vision. Picture
swimming without corrective lenses. LASIK and Custom LASIK open up a
whole world of visual freedom.

Naples LASIK & Cataract Surgery
Refractive eye surgery (correcting or reducing one's need for
glasses or contact lenses), has been in development for several
decades. Years ago, this consisted of the radial keratotomy (RK)
procedure, which was popularized in Russia. This technique involves
incisions in the cornea with the use of a diamond blade in order to
achieve the desired refractive result. Since 1996, refractive
surgery has been largely dominated by the use of excimer laser. It
was in that year, that the FDA approved the use of the excimer
laser. Initially, laser vision correction was limited to myopia or
nearsightedness. However, the correction of astigmatism as well as
hyperopia or farsightedness has also become available with Laser
Vision Correction or LASIK. Dr. Zimm completed a fellowship
(specialty training) in corneal and refractive surgery at Manhattan
Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital under the direction of Dr. Richard
Troutman, a world renowned expert in corneal and refractive surgery.
Dr. Zimm has been performing refractive surgery since 1991 and is
one of the most experienced refractive surgeons in southwest
Florida.
This procedure involves the use of the VISX IV Laser to remove the
outer layer of the cornea, reshaping the eye to improve the vision.
The corneal flap is created under which the laser light is directed.
The flap is then placed over the ablated cornea, generally allowing
rapid improvement in your uncorrected vision. The procedure is easy
for the patient and there is little, if any discomfort.
Approximately 1,000 Americans a day are having Lasik performed and
it is an FDA approved procedure.
The safety and effectiveness of the CustomVue procedure is
underscored by the results of a clinical study conducted by VISX,
Incorporated for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
According to results from the FDA study, at one year after the
procedure, 100 percent of the people whose vision was corrected with
the CustomVue procedure could pass driving test without glasses or
contact lenses. Ninety-eight percent of the people treated with
CustomVue had 20/20 or better vision at one year after the
procedure, and 70 percent of those people could actually see better
than 20/20 -without glasses or contact lenses.

LASIK is the most common type of laser vision correction procedure.
It is an extremely effective treatment for many prescriptions,
including high myopia (nearsightedness). LASIK is currently one of
the most frequently performed healthcare procedures chosen by
millions of Americans each year.
LASIK is an outpatient procedure that usually takes about 5 minutes
to perform on each eye and the results can be rapid and dramatic.
Most patients can see well enough the next day to drive a car
without correction. Keep in mind results vary depending on each
individual's healing abilities.
Your eye is as unique as your own fingerprint, with its own special
shape and complex characteristics that make it unlike any other. The
best treatment is one that is unique to you. To better understand
your particular vision and any impairments you may have, the Zyoptix®
system maps thousands of data points —giving Dr. Palmon and Dr.
Glasser a fully detailed, three-dimensional picture of your cornea’s
shape and characteristics. We can then provide a unique treatment
for each eye, resulting in personalized vision correction that is as
individual as your eye.
Small imperfections in the shape of the eye can cause a scattering
of light, which in turn can contribute to vision impairment. This
scattering of light forms distinct patterns within the eye known as
aberrations. The innovative design of the Zyoptix®personalized laser
vision correction system allows us to measure these aberrations,
then plan a treatment that exactly matches the eye’s individual
vision errors.
