Lasik Eye Surgery California
LASIK is a true revolution in eye care. It is one of the most
commonly performed operations in the world. Some regard it as a
modern “medical miracle” because the results are almost immediate
with minimal discomfort. At the end of the procedure, patients can
see across the room. By the next day, the vast majority of patients
can legally drive to the first post operative visit free of glasses
or contact lenses.
After complete topical anesthesia, a microkeratome is used to create
a very thin flap of corneal tissue. The flap is gently laid back and
the laser sculpts the desired
correction onto the corneal bed. The flap is then placed back in
position.

The procedure begins with very effective topical anesthetic drops to
numb and dilate your eyes. You will be awake and alert during the
procedure. For the first surgical step, the doctor uses a special
microkeratome, which Dr. Khanna prefers to using Intralase, to
separate a precisely calculated top layer of the cornea from the
front of the eye. This corneal flap is then folded back to one side
while remaining attached during the procedure. Next, the excimer
laser delivers a programmed number of pulses of cool ultraviolet
light to reshape the cornea according to your individual correction.
If you suffer from nearsightedness, Dr. Khanna will flatten the
corneal surface slightly to correct the error. If you are
farsighted, Dr. Khanna will flatten the cornea’s outer edge. If you
are astigmatic, Dr. Khanna will flatten certain areas of the cornea
in an elliptical pattern. After the laser has reshaped the cornea,
the corneal flap is put back in place. The eye holds the flap in
place naturally as it heals, and so no stitches are needed.
Dr. Khanna offers Los Angeles residents only the latest LASIK
technology. Our state-of-the-art laser is so incredibly precise and
predictable, allowing for the removal of
39-millionths of an inch of tissue in 12-billionths of a second!
During the LASIK procedure at his Los Angeles practice, Dr. Khanna
first administers numbing eye drops. Dr. Khanna first uses a special
microkeratome to create a corneal flap. Using the detailed Wavefront
map of your eye, Dr. Khanna uses the precise excimer laser to
reshape your corneas depending on your need for correction. In just
minutes, your vision is improved and on its way to correction!

EyeCare Associates of San Francisco
If you are tired of the expense and inconvenience of wearing glasses
or contact lenses, you might want to consider having laser vision
correction (LVC). In our San Francisco offices, we specialize in
LASIK eye surgery, Custom wavefront-guided LASIK, and LTK, the
latest in fast, effective and safe laser vision correction.
Laser refractive procedures are designed to change the shape of the
cornea by using the gentle effects of computer controlled lasers.
Vision is improved by focusing light
rays more directly on the retina to create a clearer image.
We offer complimentary consultations at our San Francisco, Bay Area
offices, to determine if you are a candidate for laser eye surgery.
Flexible financing plans are
available. Also available are free seminars, pamphlets, and videos
about laser vision correction.
LASIK eye surgery has become the most popular refractive procedure
of all time and is the vision correction procedure of choice for
refractive surgeons the world over. LASIK combines the precision of
the excimer laser delivery system with the benefit of a
sophisticated surgical instrument known as a microkeratome. LASIK
eye surgery is
performed under anesthetic eye drops. The microtome is used to
create a thin corneal flap, which is opened like the page of a book.
The excimer laser is then used to sculpt
ultra-thin layers of the remaining cornea to change its shape.
By changing the shape of the cornea, treatment of nearsightedness,
farsightedness, and/or astigmatism is possible for the appropriate
eye. After the laser treatment, the flap is returned back to its
original position and adheres without the use of stitches. The
entire procedure takes less than 15 minutes for both eyes.
