Clearly LASIK
While conventional LASIK offers significant improvements in vision
and can dramatically reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses,
custom LASIK can bring patients one step closer toward obtaining the
goal of near-perfect vision.
If the surface of the eye were completely smooth, standard LASIK
measurements would yield the best possible result; however, that is
not the case. The surface of each eye is unique, containing minute
topographic variations that affect vision in very subtle ways.
Standard measurements do not detect these variations.
At CLEARLY LASIK, we offer the advantages of custom LASIK, which is
based on wavefront measurement techniques. These measurements detect
the specific topography
of each individual eye and help our doctors guide the laser to
create a smoother eye surface.
LASIK (laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis) is today’s most
popular surgical procedure for correcting vision problems caused by
refractive error, the failure of the eye to properly focus light. At
our CLEARLY LASIK laser vision correction centers throughout North
America, we help people eliminate or dramatically reduce the need
for glasses or contact lenses by treating nearsightedness,
farsightedness, and astigmatism. After LASIK, the majority of
patients who are treated for mild to moderate refractive error
achieve vision good enough to eliminate the need for glasses or
contact lenses for most activities.
The goal of LASIK is to reshape the cornea, the front part of the
eye that helps focus light on the retina. The retina is the tissue
that lines the back of the eye - Once it
receives an image, the retina transmits it to the brain via
electrical impulses carried by the optic nerve. When all parts of
the eye work properly, a person experiences 20/20
vision, or normal visual acuity.

LASIK is an acronym for a procedure called laser in-situ
keratomileusis, which reshapes the cornea using an excimer laser.
Although the technology has evolved over the past 50 years, LASIK
has been available since the 1990’s and has grown extremely popular.
LASIK is a quick, easy, and hassle-free way to improve your vision.
In fact, millions of people have found freedom from eyeglasses and
contacts, thanks to LASIK laser vision correction.
LASIK is actually a two-step process. In the first step, Dr.
Hollingshead creates a flap of corneal tissue and folds it back to
prepare the eye for the second step, in which an
excimer laser is used on the inner cornea to correct vision. This
two-step process allows for rapid visual recovery with little or no
patient discomfort. Take a look at the table below to see the
difference between the two procedures.
LASIK has proven to be a relatively safe procedure, with most LASIK
complications related to the creation of the corneal flap. Now,
LASIK is even safer because bladeless IntraLASIK ® makes it possible
to create the flap with a more precise process that works from the
“inside-out,” and greater precision means improved safety and
results. Dr. Hollingshead is the first and only eye surgeon in Idaho
to offer his patients the added safety of bladeless IntraLASIK
technology.
