(formerly Baptist Montclair Hospital). We have created a Center of
Excellence for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, widely regarded as
the premier facility for comprehensive vision correction procedures
such as iLASIK: the next generation in laser vision correction.
iLASIK is a significant improvement over traditional LASIK and is a
blade-free all laser custom LASIK procedure with Intralase. For
patients who are not ideal LASIK candidates we offer excellent
alternative procedures such as PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy),

Many patients begin to experience the progressive blurring of their
near vision as they enter their 40’s. This “vision over 40”
syndrome-known as Presbyopia-typically has
required eye care patients to wear reading glasses or bifocals in
order to see clearly up close. By combining modern cataract surgery

Marc Michelson, M.D. is the Medical Director and Founder of Alabama
Eye and Cataract Center as well Michelson Laser Vision in
Birmingham. In addition, Dr. Michelson is Associate Clinical
Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham
School of Medicine. Dr. Michelson completed his Bachelor of Science
and Master of Science Degrees at Tulane University in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of
Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine. His medical education
continued with an internship in Internal Medicine at the University
of Alabama-Birmingham and a Residency in Ophthalmology at the Eye
Foundation Hospital of the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Dr.
Michelson advanced his eye surgery training to become a Corneal
Surgeon and Specialist by completing a Fellowship in Cornea and
External Disease at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. Dr. Michelson founded the first Refractive Laser Eye
Surgery Center in Alabama at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in
Birmingham where he conducted pioneering clinical research in Laser
Eye Surgery to assist in the clinical trials required to present
data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of the
Excimer Laser.
At Alabama Eye & Cataract Center, Dr. Michelson performs Cataract
Surgery in Birmingham and is a distinguished Cataract Surgeon in
Alabama. He was one of the first eye surgeons in Alabama to implant
the near vision presbyopia correcting lens implant, ReSTOR in
Alabama and has considerable experience in helping Alabama Cataract
Surgery patients eliminate their dependence on eyeglasses, reading
glasses and bifocals with the Crystalens Lens Implant.
