The name “LASIK” is short for laser in-situ keratomileusis. Like Photo-refractive Keratectomy, which also utilizes the Excimer Laser, LASIK reshapes the cornea with laser technology. The shape of the cornea is what determines whether you are nearsighted, farsighted, have astigmatism, or have normal vision. The Excimer Laser emits a “cool” laser light that can remove microscopic amounts of tissue with extreme precision.

With LASIK, you are awake for the procedure. You will be given eye drops to numb your eyes so that you will be comfortable throughout the procedure. A small instrument is then inserted to hold your eyelids open. Laser vision correction is best done on the underlying layer of your cornea. Therefore, the doctor uses an instrument called a “microkeratome” to lift a thin layer of the cornea to create a “flap” that stays connected on one side.

Our office treats medical eye diseases with utmost priority. If you suddenly experience a red eye (which may signify a bacterial, allergic or viral infection), we will take care of it immediately. If you get any foreign objects in your eyes such as metal, call immediately. If there is a family history of glaucoma, we will perform a thorough evaluation and determine the extent of your condition and prescribe the appropriate medication. Dry eye problems are also evaluated with many tests to determine the extent of your condition and be treated accordingly with over-the-counter or prescription eye drops and/or punctal plugs. Macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetes, and hypertension are carefully documented and observed using the latest technology such as a digital fundus camera. We may sometimes refer you to the appropriate specialist for treatment depending on the location and extent of the disease. From our 30 years of networking with eye doctors, we have our special list of specialty doctors with the highest skills for different parts of the eye. Examples include: eye muscle doctors, corneal specialists, plastic surgery eye specialists, retinal specialists, eye tumor specialists, etc.

Additional services include computer-assisted eye exams, infant and pediatric eye exams, contact lens fittings of all types. We now use High Definition Fourier/Spectral Domain OCT(Ocular Coherence Tomography) for early glaucoma detection, corneal topography utilizing WAVEFRONT technology for contact lens fitting and corneal evaluation, digital color fundus photography and automated peripheral vision analysis using Digital Frequency Doubling Technology(FDT)to detect or measure progression of any ocular disease. Another new piece of equipment is the Digital Spectrum Lensographer which will analyze your prescription using WAVEFRONT technology and will show a color contour map of the quality of the type of spectacle lenses as well as printing out its exact prescription. We also have added Digital PACHYMETRY which measures the thickness of the cornea letting us determine treatment for glaucoma cases, and evaluate the cornea for LASIK surgery. Our newer instrument, the Digital CANON AIR PUFF tonometer has a softer puff and automatically tracks and takes the reading instantly. We have an extensive optical showroom with over 800 frames to compliment your lifestyle. Our office now offers the PRIO COMPUTER VISION EXAM for those who have computer vision syndrome. For special needs patients, infants and wheel chair patients, we now have the Retinomax 3 autorefractor/keratometer that has 3 functions and can take readings in .07 seconds for our most challenging cases. Please call for free brochure or make an appointment for a computer vision exam. COMPUTERIZED HOME VISION THERAPY is now available for patient with eye muscle problems not corrected by glasses alone.

Our practice was established in 1977 in Fox Valley. We have completed major reconstruction of our office, changing the facade and expanding our building, with additional high-tech equipment, 5 brand new exam rooms(3 exam lanes plus 2 diagnostics rooms),optical lab, staff conference/break room, bookkeeping, doctors library, and a new contact lens teaching center. Please note our office is wheelchair accessible which includes; front ramp, washrooms, and 3 more exam lanes which can accommodate wheelchairs without switching chairs. Lasik Chicago Laser Vision Correction

During LASIK laser eye surgery the surgeon first applies anesthetic eye drops to numb the eye for surgery. The Cornea is then marked with water-soluble ink to guide replacement of the flap. Next a suction ring is applied that is designed to hold the eye steady and also confirms the pressure of the eye. The surgeon then creates a thin corneal flap using a device called a microkeratome. The surgeon tests for laser alignment and walks the patient through the fixation process. The corneal flap is lifted up, and the laser beam is applied to the exposed interior surface of the cornea to reshape the tissue. The computer-controlled excimer laser removes the tissue under the flap and reshapes the cornea of the affected eye. In less than 60 seconds, high-energy pulses from the excimer laser actually reshape the internal cornea with accuracy up to 0.25 microns, or 1/4000 of a millimeter. The flap is then replaced over the treated area. This corneal flap serves a natural bandage, which eliminates the discomfort associated with other types of refractive surgery, and expedites the healing process. Your doctor will then watch the eye for five minutes to ensure proper healing. Because of the extraordinary bonding properties of the corneal tissue, stitches are not needed to keep the flap in place postoperatively.

With the IntraLase method, pulses of laser light create your corneal flap, which is then lifted so the next step of LASIK—the reshaping of your cornea—can be performed. When your LASIK treatment is over, the flap is securely repositioned into place. This bladeless, computer-guided technology is 100% more accurate than most of the mechanical microkeratomes (hand-held devices with a thin metal blade) that surgeons may also use to create a corneal flap.
