You are supposed to lie on a bed which is attached to a laser instrument.


You will then receive a mild anesthesia or some numbing eye drops. The head is comfortably positioned under the laser and the eyelids are gently kept open with the help of a soft clip, to reveal your eye ball. You will continuously visualize a blinking light during the surgery. The entire procedure usually takes 5-10 minutes per eye. After completion a transparent protective shield is sometimes placed on the eye. Surgeons perform a post-surgery eye examination after which eye drops are prescribed.


You will start recovering within 4-6 hours. However, the functional vision is restored within 24-48 hours of surgery. Your eyes may feel gritty, irritated, or watery, at the time of healing. These sensations typically last from a week to a month. Doctors advice post surgical precautions to be taken depending on the complexity and seriousness of the treatment. Suggestions such as using antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops, no swimming, no rubbing of eyes etc. should be strictly followed for about a month. You may also need to continue to use eye drops for a few months.

Unlike any surgical operation, there are risks involved in corrective lasik eye surgery. Some people have reported about double vision or even night blindness after a corrective laser eye surgery. This can happen as sometimes you can be over treated or under treated.
